Smoke on the Water - Carnival Liberty

We had mixed emotions arriving at Port of Miami for our 7 night western Caribbean cruise on the Carnival Liberty. Earlier that morning we had gotten off the Holland America Noordam, and had said our farewells to a great group of people that we had had a heap of fun with. Our trepidation was also fuelled by the Passengers & Crew from our HAL cruise, that had joked with us that we were in for a real shock when cruising with Carnival……….what an understatement

Don’t be afraid of a floating nursing home

A few comments about a recent voyage on Holland America Noordam There is an old adage that says “a team is only as fast as its slowest player”. This thought came to mind as we first stepped on board the beautiful Holland America Noordam in Fort Lauderdale for our 10 night Eastern Caribbean Cruise. It was a little confronting as we entered the lido deck to grab some lunch, as we waited for our cabin to become ready

Being someone who doesn’t mince words, let alone mispronounce them, I found myself saying over and over is it “EEE-quinox” or “ECK-quinox?” Finally after several sleepless nights I turned to http://www.thefreedictionary.com/equinox to hear it correctly pronounced

MSC Poesia - Now that’s Italian!

In November 2009, amid media hoopla and fanfare, the MSC Poesia arrived at Port Everglades from her home in Italy to begin her maiden Caribbean season. Meaning “Poetry” in English, this beautiful ship will sail 3-5-7-10 night amazing itineraries throughout the Caribbean including the Yucatan, Panama Canal and Bermuda during her first season in North America. MSC Cruises is a family-owned Italian cruise and shipping company whose original name was “Mediterranean Shipping Cruises.” With a fairly recent entry into the passenger cruise industry, MSC Cruises is known for their new ships (among the newest fleet in the industry), Italian ambiance and European experience. MSC Poesia At 93,000 tons and carrying 2,550 passengers (based on double-occupancy), the Poesia is a medium-sized vessel by the mega-ship standards of today. The Poesia is truly a state of the art ship equipped with the latest advances in eco-technology, safety and design. There are four banks of elevators, so despite the smaller-sized ship, MSC makes sure that you never have to walk very far to the nearest lift.
