Disneyland’s Downtown Disney to open two new stores

The recession has not been kind to many of the tenants of Disneyland’s Downtown Disney shopping mall. The Anne Geddes show just closed, and Basin closed in January. Today two new retail stores were announced to be opening this spring – Sanuk, a footwear shop and BLINK, a denim apparel store – replacing the recently shuttered locations.

Oh those wacky Geo-Location Cache Hobbyists, causing Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney and Disneyland Drive to close down for 90 plus minutes today while Police brought in the bomb squad, what were they thinking? Who knows? But that’s certainly better news than someone planting a bomb in that busy area.

King Arthur Carrousel gets new Stirrups

At the beginning of last year we noticed that the Cinderella Royal Carrousel, as it was still known at that time, had acquired some new stirrups that acted effectively as steps making it much easier to mount the beautiful horses. Now the same stirrups have been added to King Arthur Carrousel out west at Disneyland… and they one-upped Walt Disney World by added new handles too. King Arthur Carrousel acquired these changes after it came out of refurbishment at the end of last week.

George Lucas test rides new Star Tours

The updated version of the Star Tours attraction is nearing completion as evidenced by this visit from Star Wars creator George Lucas to Disneyland in Anaheim where the attraction is already undergoing test rides. Lucas was accompanied by producer Rick McCallum and both gave it a thumbs up

Expect Crowds at Disneyland and Disney World

When I lived in Southern California during the 90s there were a few weeks where you knew it was going to be crazy busy. As a regular you just altered your plans, perhaps taking in a few more shows than usual or eating at off hours.

Attendance: Disneyland Up, Disney World Down – no surprise there

Major outlets are reporting that analysts believe Disneyland increased attendance this year, while Walt Disney World declined. It has to be inferred, because for the first time in recent years, The Walt Disney World company has not revealed resort attendance separately to investors and the press. This shift in attendance is not unexpected.

According to Disneyland, John Nicoletti has been appointed vice president of communications for the Disneyland Resort effective Nov.

Union in Dispute with Disneyland Ups the Ante with Risky Flyer

A few days ago members of the Unite HERE Local 11 were reportedly seen handing out flyers near Disneyland. Normally this would be an acceptable behavior for a union that is in a three year dispute with the theme park and resort over benefits, working conditions, and wages for its members. But this time they may have gone a step too far
