Disney teaching English in China

I linked to a Reuters story on the practice last month, but now the Economist has come out with their own story on Disney’s latest move in China. The English-language schools run by Disney are seen by the families that enroll their children as a path to a better-life.

I know I haven’t been very supportive of Disney’s business deals in China, but recent news from The Washington Post finds me giving at least a partial thumbs up to one of Disney’s latest branding efforts there.

Disney gets approval for Shanghai?

ChinaKnowledge.com is reporting that Disney has cleared all the regulatory and government approvals to go ahead with its theme park to be located outside of Shanghai. sources said a press conference would be held soon in Geneva to announce the approval. Earlier media reports said that a joint venture will be established to manage the Shanghai Disney Park, with 43% of its shares held by the U.S

Shanghai’s Disney Theme Park, an early visit

Theme Park Guy, whose mission is to visit and chronicle every theme park on the planet, has an extra-early report from the future site of Disney’s next theme park. As has been rumored for months, it will be located outside of Shanghai, which is on mainland China, and will be Disney’s third resort in Asia. Visit Theme Park Guy’s report from the scene and you’ll enjoy beautiful scenes of trees, farmland, and a village (which may or may not need to be moved to make way for Disney).
