Besides Disney my other real fandom is that of racing, particularly open wheel racing. So as I posted early this year , I was very pleased when this year’s Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon was feted at Walt Disney World with a victory parade. It was with tremendous sadness that I learned today of Wheldon’s death in an accident at the Las Vegas race

Bob Iger, George Lucas, and Anthony Daniels enjoy a first ride on Star Tours after the dedication ceremony When Star Wars Episode One was under production 14 years ago, word leaked out from George Lucas’ Industrial Light and Magic that they were working on a segment, based on the pod-racing segment, that they wanted to use to update Star Tours at Disneyland. At the time I remember thinking that, it was nice to know that someone remembered how Star Tours was designed to be easily updated with new destinations all the time. Alas, nothing happened at the attraction, but there was a new hope in the air.

Monorail Pilot Family’s Lawsuit Against Disney Voluntarily Dismissed

The wrongful death lawsuit filed against the Walt Disney World resort over the death of a monorail pilot on July 5th 2009 has been voluntarily dismissed by the pilot’s family. This is very likely a sign that a settlement has been reached between Disney and the family, although details of the dismissal are private. The family was understandably upset that Disney’s procedures allowed for a WDW transportation manager to call signals from an off-site location instead of a spot where visible confirmation could be made.

Florida Today has the complaint from the family of the cast member killed in last summer’s monorail accident. From Disney’s perspective it’s a chain of bad luck that resulted in tragedy, from the family’s perspective, it’s pretty damning. In newly filed court papers, the family claims the monorail cockpit Wuennenberg was riding in had “virtually no bracing or frame support whatsoever”

The Orlando Sentinel has posted a very moving video of Austin Wuennenberg the monorail pilot killed in the tragic Sunday morning accident at Walt Disney World. The video was recorded just a few weeks ago when the Cimino family of Briton, Conn., took a ride in the nose cone with Austin.
