This week last year Walt Disney World rechristened the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex under the ESPN brand. Thus marked the zenith of a little project that began 8 years ago with the first ESPN The Weekend. For the first time, this year will feature some beloved college and professional sports mascots

It was just about two years ago that a rumor spread that Disney would build an ESPN Zone at Orlando’s Downtown Disney to match the one in Anaheim. My, how things have changed. All ESPN Zone locations have since closed except for Anaheim and Los Angeles, and it’s still unclear why.

Harlem Globetrotters Announce Two Games at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

The Harlem Globetrotters announced today a two-game Harlem Globetrotters Holiday Special Event at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World. I’ve now seen the Harlem Globetrotters perform twice at the WWOS complex, both times were real special experiences. There is a ton of family friendly fun that everyone will enjoy, not just the sports fan.

I’ve read a lot of business books in my time, but the one that sticks with me the most is Tom Peter’s revolutionary “ In Search of Excellence: Lessons from America’s Best-Run Companies .” The lessons I learned therein have served me well in nearly every aspect of my career. As it happens the practices of the Walt Disney Company, with Michael Eisner and Frank Wells recently placed in charge, were a central focus of the book. It would be more than another decade, and the tragic loss of Wells, before Eisner lost his way and took the company with it

ESPN RISE Games – Thriller Edition

Had a great time at the opening ceremonies of the ESPN RISE Games on Saturday. The crowd and the student athletes were really pumped up for the official launch of the two week event. I think this rendition of Thriller, led by DJ Steve Dunlap , was a great way to get everyone into the spirit.
