Review: Thanksgiving at Aulani’s Makahiki Buffet

I was fortunate to spend Thanksgiving day this year at Disney’s Aulani Resort & Spa on Oahu with family and friends. Though we were staying on the other side of the island, we couldn’t resist the chance to make the drive to Ko Olina to check out Disney’s newest resort and enjoy a Hawaiian Thanksgiving sprinkled with Disney magic. First impression of Aulani: spectacular! The food, well, that’s another story… Aulani offered a special Thanksgiving event with entertainment and character appearances ($85 per adult and $73 per child – ouch!)

Aulani Officially Opens, Receives Permission to Sell DVC Again

We now know the amount by which Disney Vacation Club was undervaluing their Aulani contracts — 33%. That’s the amount of the raise Disney has been given permission to add to their previous fees. According to a Disney spokesperson quoted in the Orlando Sentinel , sales have resumed on site in Hawaii and will resume shortly at other locations as well.

More details on Disney Vacation Club Firings

Jason Garcia at the Orlando Sentinel has done some excellent digging on the cause and effect of the recent firings, yes there was more than one, at Disney Vacation Club. As we speculated earlier , it turns out that former DVC President Jim Lewis was let go after failing to tie-up all the important details with Aulani – a new Disney resort in Hawaii that is half hotel and half DVC (give or take). But the exact details weren’t known until Jason’s article .

Aulani Resort – A Bird’s Eye View

Disney has just released this bird’s eye view of their Hawaii resort and DVC complex Aulani. Looks beautiful, even with some work remaining. It’s a bit hard to get the scale of the towers, but you can expect that beach to be a lot more crowded when the resort opens.

Aulani details begin to emerge

On a recent walk through the construction site at Aulani, Djuan Rivers, Vice President of Disney Vacation Club and Resort, Hawaii, talked about Pu’u Kino, the lava outcropping which is probably the most imposing and eye-catching landmark in the Waikolohe Valley recreation and activity area of the Resort. Pu’u Kino is the center piece of the pool area
