Coming from a literary background, I love examining the interconnectivity between stories. I am especially addicted to studies on how stories function and overlap in different forms, be it literature, film, television, art, or anything else.

Trevor Hogg of the UK Film critic site Flickering Myth has just finished his 5 part series on Japan’s Animation Master Hayao Miyazaki, also known as the Japanese Walt Disney. Disney has partnered with Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli to bring his works to America in the theaters and on DVD, usually with voice overs redubbed by talent from Disney’s stable. This style of animation varies from child-like innocence to moments where you feel drawn into the middle of a Monet, Picasso, or other classic work of art.

There are many reasons to add Surrogates to your DVD collection. Among them are: you’re a Bruce Willis completeist, you like a good film noir and sci-fi doesn’t turn you off, you’re an all-the-humans-are-robots-except-for-the-protagonist-completeist, or, perhaps, you just like science fiction thrillers. Surrogates qualifies for all those reasons

Flash Forward, Episode 107: “The Gift”

Well, this episode was a good deal better than the last. We finally get an answer to whether the futures seen in the flashes can be changed, as well as a heck of an unexpected cliff-hanger. That and an almost word-for-word replay of a scene from the premiere of “V” two days earlier (perhaps they themselves were having a flash-forward…). What more could you want? 1) Our Heroes’ private lives continue to be tossed in turmoil as the effects of their seemingly inevitable flashes continue to mount. We find out who the Blue Hand group is, apparently – a “death cult” of sorts, made up of those who saw nothing during their blackouts and presumably have nothing to live for. Mark, Demetri (still can’t get used to why people call him “Dem”) and Al attempt to infiltrate one such meeting. We watch a quick Russian Roulette-type interrogation with an old codger of a gatekeeper and see Al step in to immediately pull the trigger on himself. In light of events at the end of the episode, I wonder if even then he was seeking ways to “break the pattern” and prove to himself that he can prevent what’s to come.

The ship HAL Volendam 61,000 tons but someplaces is said to be 63,000 is what I would now call a mid sized ship. beautiful artwork and flower arrangements all over the place.
