For the last couple weeks, I’ve been hinting of an exciting new project. Behind the scenes I’ve been working to get everything show ready and now I’m ready to draw back the curtain. “Dispatch from Disneyland: The Fireworks Spot and Other Tales” is a collection of short stories, essays, and rare trivia written in and about my favorite place on earth – Disneyland.

When you evacuate an attraction, how long should it take?

The 911 tape for the heavily reported on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey evacuation has been released . On it, one of the ride’s passengers claims they had been kept waiting 15 minutes in an uncomfortable position without any notice from ride attendants when help would come. Leaving aside how accurate the 15 minute claim was, I think the incident poses an interesting question to consider

The CalArts Story

Patricia Zohn, author of the recent Vanity Fair profile of Disney’s Ink & Paint women, has dug up another gem . This video produced by the Walt Disney Studios to promote CalArts has rarely been seen. CalArts, of course, was given a big financial and creative push by Walt Disney.

Negotiations for new Labor Agreement underway at Disney World

With it’s sister property Disneyland in the middle of a three year dispute with Unite Here, one of its dozen or so labor unions, Walt Disney World has come to the table to negotiate a new contract.

Disney Dream nears completion

Hard to believe that the next ship in the Disney Cruise Line, the Disney Dream, is just 6 months away from completion and its maiden voyage. Here’s a short video showing the progress and some concept art of what things will look like when they’re finished. You can also keep track of the progress via the Meyer Werft web cam .

Hurricanes and Walt Disney World

With Tropical Storm Bonnie passing close to southern Florida, although not currently targeting Central Florida, it’s time to check in on what you should do if Bonnie or any subsequent named storm should head a bit northward. First check the National Hurricane Center and see if your destination is in the potential path of the storm.
