Orlando is no longer thought of as solely the house of the mouse; since the boy wizard set up shop up International Drive, people have begun to take notice that Universal has a terrific staff of creative developers of its own. That shouldn’t be a shock since many of them got their start in Walt Disney Imagineering, but fell victim to the budget cut blade over the years.

Big news from Universal Studios theme parks division was just announced. Not only is the rumored Universal Studios Hollywood Wizarding World of Harry Potter clone official, the expansion in Universal Orlando Resort has been officially confirmed.

When I lived in Southern California, the theme park I visited the second most often was Universal Studios Hollywood. I lived within walking distance and would often find myself on the Backlot Tram or watching Waterworld when the thought of driving across town through traffic to Disneyland was just too much.

Man injured on Dragon Challenge Roller Coaster at Universal Orlando Islands of Adventure park

Earlier today a man riding in the front row of the Dragon Challenge Roller Coaster at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure theme park was injured and possibly blinded, when an object hit him in the head as he rode the dueling roller coaster attraction.

In a move that would put the two domestic Universal Studios theme parks back on the same track and under unified ownership, Comcast owned NBCUniversal has opted to agree to the Blackstone Group’s offer to sell their half of the Universal Orlando Resort. This also solves some potential licensing issues if Blackstone decided to sell their half to someone other than NBCUniversal

Orlando welcomed a record breaking 51.455 Million visitors in 2010; a double-digit growth over 2009. Even though the numbers of 2009 were depressed by the economy, that’s still pretty impressive. With this record, Orlando is the first destination in the country to welcome more than 50 million visitors and remains the most visited destination in the U.S.

This morning Universal Orlando announced that Spider-Man at Islands of Adventure will be re-animated using 4K digital HD. The 3D projection system will be by Infitec . They will even add some enhancements to the film – perhaps we should expect some additional inside jokes?
